The name Seed and Spiral speaks to the possibility of a world that is rekindling itself through apprenticeships with Earth, ancestors, and our bodies. It turns us away from human supremacy narratives and directs our vision towards the interconnectedness of all beings—with our non-human kin as models and teachers of liberated ways of living.

Seeds are life! They are the embodiment of both beginnings and endings. Seeds are the culmination of wisdom gleaned from the plant's full life cycle. When buried in fertile soil, they hold the promise of a future for their species. As we humans try to live into an equitable future for our species and the wider world, we must embrace the responsibilities of the past while organizing for collective liberation.

Spirals illustrate the bounty that is available to us as we stretch towards growth. Cycles repeat, but each pass offers new perspective and new choices. We are invited to connect with lessons we may have learned before from a new angle, deepening our understanding and living into greater agency. May we cast our nets wide behind and around us, gathering the abundant wisdom from the ancestors of blood and spirit, movement elders, mentors, teachers, children, and animals.

Milkweed Logo

S&S Logo Elements-22.png

As both the home and the source of nourishment for the monarch caterpillar’s process of birth and transformation, the milkweed plant offers a potent symbol of support. Like the monarch caterpillars that rely on this plant for their own passage through the terrains of unlearning; completely letting go of their first shapes to become creatures of the air; may we find the provisions we need to enter into sacred cocoons, become soft and mushy, and allow for new bodies to emerge.

The invitation in all our offerings at Seed & Spiral is to dismantle systems of oppression while co-creating the liberatory futures we all need. To get there, the invitation is to surrender to our own process of transformation—not fully knowing who or what we’ll be on the other side. If we follow our bodies towards what nourishes and holds us, we can often find the courage to let go of who we’ve been in service of what comes next.
